It was a lazy Sunday and i decided to take my kids to the Fish farm at Narackal (Njarackal). It is a wonderful initiative by the goverment department to promote tourism in a humble way. Situated on the Fort Kochi Cherai road, just off the Narackal Police Station is this simple and nice picnic spot called the “Matsyafed Brackish Water Fish Farm “.
As you enter the farm you get to see the “Do’s and don’ts” to be observed once you step in. Right next to it is the ticket counter from where you could buy tickets for adults for Rs.150 and kids for Rs.100. You can spend the whole day in the farm and enjoy a sumptuous lunch for which the price is included in this fare.
Once inside the favorite pastime is catching fish. Local fish rods with feeds are available at a minimal price. Care should be taken while handling this equipment as it may lead to accidents.
You can boating too in this brackish waters and may choose between a pedal boat and a row boat, 30 mins duration is free and included in the ticket cost.
After a hectic and a patient fish hunt where you may or may not get the fish, there is one place where you get to see and taste it all – during the lunch you are served a fish meal which is appealing and tasty.
Here you can order special orders at extra cost as you enter, as the portion sizes are limited and they are yummy too.
Overall its good days break and wonderful outing for kids as this gives them an opportunity to get close to nature. For Kochiites its a welcome break and for tourists its an interesting experience.
